Last week at our Thursday English Circle, we had a fun and productive session focused on household chores. From 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Swinburne University, we enjoyed interactive activities that helped us practice essential vocabulary while sharing our daily home routines.
Here are the three main things we learned together:
- Vocabulary Expansion: We covered a variety of household tasks such as cleaning the windows, sweeping the floor, doing the dishes, and watering the plants. Everyone had the chance to improve their vocabulary using the correct British terms, like “taking out the rubbish” instead of trash.
- Here’s a handy list of household chores we discussed:
- To sweep the floor
- To scrub the floor
- To mop the floor
- To vacuum the carpet
- To dust
- To take out the rubbish (UK)
- To tidy (UK)
- To go to the shops (UK)
- To clean the bathroom
- To set the table
- To clear the table
- To do the dishes
- To dry the dishes
- To load the dishwasher
- To unload the dishwasher
- To do the laundry
- To hang clothes
- To do the ironing
- To fold clothes
- To make the bed
- To change the sheets
- To water the plants
- To feed the pets
3. Sentence Building: We practised constructing full sentences using this new vocabulary. Whether it was describing how to mop the floor or fold clothes, participants created sentences that shared their daily responsibilities at home.
4. Listening and Dictation: We reinforced what we learned by doing dictation exercises. This helped improve not only our spelling and listening comprehension but also gave us confidence in using these phrases in everyday conversations.
We’ve included some great photos from the session to capture the fun and progress we made together. Feel free to join us next time to practise and expand your English skills in a friendly environment! AuburnHub’s English Circle meets every Thursday from 2 to 4 PM, and on Sundays from 3 to 5 PM.
See you at the next session!
