In our English group, everyone is welcome. At our last meeting, Robyn, Rob, Andrew, and David spent time with our new friends from Colombia, Iran, and China, and there was even space for their babies. This time, Jollette from Colombia and her baby Guadalupe joined us. Guadalupe was born premature at 5 months gestation, which was quite a journey, but now she’s doing great, looking beautiful, strong, and smiling a lot. Andrea and her baby Carlos, along with their friend Angela from Colombia, also came along. They’ve been living in Australia for 5 and 7 years and want to improve their English pronunciation and fluency. Fernanda and Alejandra, also from Colombia, joined us and shared their experiences in the country and their future plans. Fernanda hopes to work in community services, while Alejandra plans to build her new life with her Italian husband, who has been in Australia since he was 8 years old. Wendy and Leyton, who come from Asian countries, also joined us. They talked about their weekly routines and showed interest in learning more about Latin American culture. Wendy surprised us with her language skills and even shared some Spanish phrases.
Manije from Iran has been in Australia for 6 months and is preparing for her PTE exam, for which she needs to improve her listening and fluency skills.
One of the goals of our English group is to help participants overcome the fear of speaking, even if they make mistakes in grammar or pronunciation. Overall, Australians and multicultural cities like Melbourne understand that migrants are here to learn a new language, and they kindly try to understand and help improve our communication skills.
Remember, everyone is welcome to our English group on Thursdays at Swinburne University from 2:00 to 4: 00 PM, and on Sundays, we have our purposeful coffee meeting at our headquarters starting at 3 PM. You can write about your weekly routine, plans for next week, or bring a list of words you find difficult to pronounce. Andrew, Robyn, Rob, and David are always ready to help us improve our common dialogues and pronunciation.
